RISHI movie review

Rishi is a movie dealt with sophistication. Just because there is a medical college there is no cheap ragging, but yes harassment is done with a degree of difference.
Raj Madiraju a debutant director doesn't aim this one at film festivals,it is evident right after five minutes into the story that he seeks a full-fledged audience who would appreciate the narration, the story, romance, comedy, not necessarily in that order first, and the ethics and morality of medicine comes a close next but towards the end he lets the caption of the film dominate the entire scene. The last ten or fifteen minutes is headed for a heavy finish, some might find it dramatic but Raj treads a very filmi path, if the protagonist has to make an exit, he should go by making his absence felt.
We talk of absence of fresh subjects in Telugu cinema, well, here is one that mirrors the life of doctors, who are considered Gods; the director shows that they are not infalliable, they have their inner demons too that make them break their oath of service.
Making a movie on medicos requires alot of home work, involves risk. One small error can make the director into a laughing stock. Raj might haveknown the difference between being an MD or an MS but it definitely takes more than that to understand the psychology of doctors, to recreate the ambience of a medical college and amidst all the seriousnesshe makes them look like ordinary human beings while even stressing theamount of pain they take to be called a doctor.
He grabs your attention right from the time the credits roll, he doesn't waste the space and uses it to provide the statistics concerning doctors, the happenings in the medical college, hospitals, examinations and everything to do with them.
Don't expect all the medicos to appear in a bespectacled look, they are all trendy, the women wear the sarees below the navel, some are plain lecherous, some very naive but the lead character played by AravindKrishna has no complication, no two sides to him. He is straight and has nothing to hide while the rest reel with hypocrisy.
He has no qualms admitting to studying medicine just because he wants to make money. That could be one of the inadequacies in his life but he is very sensitive in an undemonstrative way. Whether he tells his girlfriend that she won't enjoy his intimacy or whether he advises her to put on the music before a surgery in the last scene he does it with intensity.
Aravind Krishna shows remarkable ease and consistency, but that could again may be due to the nature of hischaracter. Whatever, a vast improvement in him from his previous movies [Young India, Alasyam Amrutham, It's My Love Story].
Supriya Shailja is adorable, simple andpleasant and the character Vidya is stunning while projecting her no nonsense attitude, you'd fall in love with both these girls. Gaurav is very cute and does his job in a relaxed manner, the professor, the comedian friend all excel. Suresh returns with abang.
Good music and neat cinematographymake Rishi an entertaining watch. A completely director's movie, what you first notice is his honesty and research. Each of us could have argued for a better ending but ultimately what matters is celluloid demand..a cinematic finish, a commercial story that makes you think and respect doctors for what they are.
